Is it better to use a urine diverter for this or does it matter? It uses just a normal low flush toilet? It's a very intriguing idea. It's hard to imagine it will never need to be cleaned out though, really? That one thing would take away a huge barrier to the use of alternative toilets.

No you don't need a urine diverter as this isn't a dry composting system. And yes, you can just use any normal flush toilet. It IS hard to believe it never needs cleaned out but aerobic decomposition is much faster than decomposing wastes in water so for the average family-sized system, the ecosystem will consume the waste faster than it builds up. I had to see it in action to really believe it for myself but it's true!
