Thanks for the response Wendy, I have the same views about concrete. I'm looking into the Australian standards and I may need to do a concrete base but my research about this has just begun so hopefully I don't need to use concrete. Australia is heavily regulated so I'm head deep in legislation to see if I can get a vermicomposting system like yours through my local council. I'll start a new topic to document my journey.

Hi Dave

You can do that if you want if it works best in your context as a stable base for your walls, but it's not necessary. I used a rubble trench foundation for the walls of mine. The tanks come on pallets or plastic bases so as long as they're sitting on a level surface, they're fine. Personally I try to minimise my use of concrete as it's not very environmentally friendly, but the junta who installed the Pai das Donas tank don't tend to think along those lines so much.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at the Design and construction page and and wondering if it's best to do a solid floor (base) for the IPC tank and walls to sit upon? In particular the Pai das Donas project that used block work for the walls looks like they might have put a concrete slab as the base for the IPC and walls to sit upon, would this be a correct assumption?

I'm thinking of making a block work container with the blocks sitting upon a concrete footing and then infilling the base with brick pavers, or for such a small size maybe just pouring a concrete base.
